While the big band that appears on screen in the 1947 black cast feature SEPIA CINDERELLA is billed as “Walter Fuller’s Orchestra,” it is actually Mercer Ellington’s short-lived band from the late 1940s. In the film clip shared here, future singing star Billy Daniels performs the Walter Fuller composition Ring Around My Rosie. The featured tenor soloist is one of the most underrated of all jazz musicians, Budd Johnson.
